Wilderness Working Sessions, Day 1
The Wilderness Working Sessions (4 days) include plenary presentations in the morning, mostly in panel format with question/answer sessions, and concurrent sessions and workshops in the afternoon.
Monday’s plenary topics include: Wilderness & Water, focusing on Mexico; Earth Observation – An Eye on the Wild Earth by Admiral Conrad Lautenbacher (NOAA); and keynotes by Jon Jarvis (Chief, US Department of Interior, National Park Service), Allan Latourelle (CEO Parks Canada), and Richard Hansen.

The Afternoon concurrent sessions include 3 primary sessions:
• Symposium on Science & Stewardship to Protect and Sustain Wilderness Values (details below);
• Native Lands and Wilderness Council; and,
• WiLDSPEAK, focused on Photojournalism and with presentations by Pete Oxford, Robert Glenn Ketchum and others.
Science Symposium sessions (2:30-4:00pm) include:
Large Landscape, Connectivity Conservation & Climate Change (by the IUCN-WCPA Mountain Biomes Group); Ecotourism; Ecosystem Services: Emerging Forest Carbon Markets; Alaska; Public-Private Partnerships workshop focused on community conservation; Recreation and Visitor Experience workshop by the Outdoor Alliance; Writers Workshop: Writing as Inspiration; Biodiversity and Climate Change in Mexico (Spanish Session); Sierra Club workshop; and, Water in Mexico: community management of water (Spanish session).

Science Symposium sessions (4:30-6:00pm) include: Applying Climate Change knowledge in Conservation Planning; Marine workshop on defining and protecting wilderness character; Ecosystem services: emerging water and biodiversity markets; wildland fire management, focus National and Regional overviews from the Americas; Asia-Pacific collaboration focus on UNDP, Kamchatka and International cooperation; Recreation and visitor experience workshop; Biodiversity and Climate Change in Mexico (Spanish session); and, Water in Mexico (Spanish session).

There will also be a poster session organized by the Aldo Leopold Institute from 4:30-7:00pm and a reception for presenters from 6:00-7:00pm.
Evening Events, 8:00pm onwards Communications and Conservation Plenary at the Fiesta Americana Hotel, featuring David Torres of Este Pai, Tim Kelly of National Geographic, readings by Boyd Norton and Ian McCallum, the WILD Writing award and a keynote by James Balog. From 9-12pm, iLCP hosts “12 Shots” at the Fiesta Americana.
