This Morning our archaeologist will meet you at your hotel in Merida and will give you an introductory lecture regarding the history of the cenotes “sink holes” and what you can find in them. Then he will take you to the fantastic Kankirixché Cenote where you will have an amazing experience diving in this cenote.
Located 49 kilometres south of Mérida, Cenote Kankirixche, “Yellow Fruit Tree”, has 15m drop to water level down to breakdown slope than can be negotiated with a hand line. Large tree roots penetrate down into the cave and hang in large clumps just below the water surface. The cavern area of this cave system is one of the largest in Mexico. Depths range from 4 to nearly 50m and it is almost circular with a diameter of approximately 90m.
At an appropriate time of the day, a shaft of light from the entrance penetrates the crystal clear water of this giant submerged cavern and provides a spectacular sight.
