WILD9 Editorial
I attended the fourth Wilderness Congress in Denver more than twenty years ago. Since then we have published the proceedings of the 4th (Denver), 5th (Norway), 6th (India), 7th (South Africa)  and 8th (Alaska) Congresses. We have also published the International Journal of Wilderness for fifteen years. The advantage of these Congresses is seeing old friends and meeting new ones. These people from every continent are creative individuals who care about the world that we have inherited from our grandparents and the world we are leaving to our grandchildren. Seeing so many who believe in the importance of wilderness provides a great deal of optimism about our common future.   Bob Baron Chairman Emeritus The WILD Foundation

The 6th World Wilderness Congress convened in Bangalore India, October 1998. A major accomplishment of the 6WWC was the Asian Wilderness Initiative, which strengthened the importance of the wilderness area concept introducing it for the first time to many countries in Asia. The initiative recommended a policy structure and framework for such recognition and designation. Listen to music from the 6th World Wilderness Congress.
