Byron I. Mallott was born and raised in Yakutat, Alaska, the ancestral home of his mother’s Tlingit Indian Raven clan. For some forty years Mr. Mallott has been active in both the public and private sectors in Alaska, the Pacific North West, and nationally.

Byron was most recently the founding President, now retired, and is currently a Trustee of the First Alaskans Institute, and is a Senior Fellow of the Institute’s Alaska Native Policy Center.
He has served as President of the Alaska Federation of Natives, President, CEO and Chairman of Sealaska Corporation, Trustee and Executive Director/CEO of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation, Cabinet Commissioner of the State of Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs, Mayor of Juneau, and Mayor of his hometown, Yakutat. He has served on numerous corporate and non profit boards, including Alaska Communications System, Bank of America Alaska, Seattle First National Bank, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Alaska Native Brotherhood, The Nature Conservancy of Alaska, The Foraker Group and the Alaska Public Radio Network.
He is currently a corporate director of Alaska Air Group, Alaska Communications Systems, Inc., Native American Bank, and Sealaska Corporation. He is a Trustee of the Institute of the North, the Polynesian Voyaging Society, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian and Philanthropy Northwest.
Mr. Mallott is Clan Leader of the KwaashKiKwaan clan of the Raven People of Yakutat. He and his wife Toni, retired from teaching elementary grades in the Yakutat and Juneau School Districts, have five grown children. They maintain homes in Yakutat and Juneau.
